GROWING UP IN A FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT HOUSE, Excerpt:
The center table was Joan Clark’s first foray into stripping paint, but the icebox proved to be the most daunting. Joan performed most of the work on her own, without protective gear. Partway into stripping the icebox, Joan hired two local Zen Buddhists to assist. “They came to the house with gloves and facemasks. I only used them for one day, but after they left I bought my own pair of strippies [gloves].”
